My favorite memory of our Dominican Republic vacation was the beach at Punta Cana.
It was long and arcing with powdery white sand and the most amazing water color I’ve ever seen. I’ll never forget it.
Five beaches are worth mentioning:
- Boca Chica
- Punta Cana to Bavaro
- Cayo Levantado
- Playa Rincón
- Bahia de las Aguilas
Boca Chica is about 20 miles east of Santo Domingo, the nation’s capital, and is known as one of the best in the Caribbea.
Punta Cana to Bavaro is actually one long resort strip that is the most popular tourist area, followed by Puerto Plata.
Cayo Levantado is a little island off the coast of the Samaná peninsula. On the Samaná peninsula itself is Playa Rincón, so both beaches can be seen in one trip.
Anyone who wants to combine beach and hiking should go to Bahia de las Aguilas, which is located in the Jaragua National Park.
